The Major Oak is an ancient tree that still stands (with a little support) even though it is over 1000 years old! This old tree is in Sherwood Forest, the home of Robin Hood which is a lovely area of woodland and trails to walk round. As long as the weather is nice.
We went on a mild and sunny Monday afternoon. There was not a lot of people about, which made it quiet and peaceful. There were plenty of birds such as Treecreepers and Coal Tits, as well as other woodland wildlife.
The Major Oak is sectioned off by a fence now, to protect it from damage. We sat on one of the tables opposite the mighty tree, ate some jaffa cakes and enjoyed the peacefulness of the Nottinghamshire woodland.
